Youth Voice & Advocacy
Birmingham 2022’s Youth Programme work with a group of young people from The Youth City board - this is to ensure that we truly have young people’s voices at the heart of the programme and it exists to provide pathways to bring young people closer to the B2022 experience.
The Youth City Board is a group of young people from Birmingham aged 11-18, who form part of the decision-making process at Birmingham City Council. They affect policy & the delivery of services in the city by reporting back into the Adult City Board. The aim of the relationship is to enable us to provide meaningful engagement to young people, connect them with the excitement and experiences of the Games and to help us create a legacy which is witnessed and enjoyed for generations.
The group act as an advisory panel to the Youth Programme whilst also being taken on an incredible journey themselves, through city visits, workshops, Queen’s Baton Relay involvement and running their own large-scale projects with the support of Birmingham 2022. We want as many young people to have access to the Games as possible – The Youth City Board are an amazing asset in helping us achieve this.
