Discover the importance of flags to nations and territories and why they are a key part of sporting events including the Commonwealth Games. Pupils can identift different features of flags of the Commonwealth and make their own flags.

Key Stage One

1. A Song to Celebrate

Explore how music is used around the Commonwealth nations and territories and to celebrate in different events such as the Commonwealth Games. Pupils learn about and listen to national anthems from around the world, write about their own feelings about music and create their own anthems.

Key Stage Two

1. Project Commonwealth

Celebrate culture, heritage and community similarities and differences. Pupils learn facts about different nations and territories competing in the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, events of past Commonwealth Games and Perry the mascot for this year's Games.

2. Our Home

Take a look into the different Commonwealth nations and territories, their landscape, features and what makes them all special. Pupils discuss the similarities and differences between their own communities and those around the Commonwealth, as well as taking part in a photography task to show off the special places in their community.

Key Stage Three

1. Welcome to the Commonwealth Games

Consider how the Commonwealth Games has changed over time and how sport can unite people throughout the world. Students create their own Commonwealth Games timelines, learn about key events and debate whether sport is the best way to unite people.
