Sunday is packed full of fun at Victoria Square Festival Site. Everyone is invited to a morning Hula Hoop class with Michela Hoops, where you’ll learn tips and tricks to dazzle and impress. Then, show off your best moves at Perry’s Playtime Disco - your opportunity to have a boogie with the Commonwealth Games’ official mascot!

At lunchtime, B:Music’s interactive Jazzlines Family Jam session takes over our Fountain Stage, sharing the secrets of instant music making with children and their families. Generously funded by Colmore BID and Central BID

In the afternoon, our Screen Spotlight shines on All Roads Lead to Alexander by Cauldwell Children and K’antu Ensemble. They will be sharing a documentary which champions the voices of SEND children and illustrates the importance of the music, art and dance workshops K’antu Ensemble has been delivering to build more awareness about disability across the city. Then, a short film by Nicola Prestage Tiger Features celebrates Birmingham’s Commonwealth communities and the creative journey the children have taken during the project through a narrative devised by the participants alongside poet Kurly McGeachie.

Also in the afternoon, Birmingham legends Big Bear Music present Sunset Jazz & Blues, featuring some of their finest acts in a showcase of true musical craftsmanship. Founded in 1968, Big Bear Music is known internationally for their independent spirit and first class events. Their lineup for our Fountain Stage includes:

The Busketeers, a trio of multi-instrumentalists who will do anything from Foo Fighters to Trini Lopez, Waterboys to Everly Brothers, with a dash of Black Country acapella.
Bob Wilson & Honeyboy Hickling are a charismatic singer and guitarist duo who bring stomping post-war Chicago Blues drawing on the music of guitar legend Buddy Guy and the wild harmonica work of Little Walter.
Julian Smith, the soprano saxophone instrumentalist who became a household name following his appearance on Britain’s Got Talent.
Ajay Srivastav & Vinod Kerai, a blues guitar and tabla duo who merge scales and techniques from classical Indian music and Delta blues. Singer songwriter Ajay and Tabla player Vinod create a world of sound that resonates with echoes of Delta blues and Indian folk.

Our programme closes with Soulful Sunday, a captivating musical journey featuring two of Birmingham’s best voices. Keziasoul is a true home-grown talent influenced by reggae, afro beat, jazz, and rhythm & blues. Kezia appeared on The Voice UK in 2021, has performed at high-profile venues and festivals in Birmingham and further afield, and is currently working on her debut EP. Her voice is distinctive, soulful and seductive to the ear; an intoxicating experience which leaves audiences wanting more.

Indigo Marshall is a diamond contribution to the next wave of UK soul and RnB. Indigo’s sound has been loved by BBC 1Xtra and BBC Introducing, and she has headlined Symphony Hall in Birmingham as well as supporting Dappy and Carrol Thompson. With lyrics that are unfiltered and honest, the Birmingham singer and songwriter’s charismatic voice captivates anyone who taps into her journey. Presented by B:Music and generously funded by Colmore BID and Central BID

At various times during the day, challenge your friends, family and other audience members to a game of Piing. Piing is a virtual game that brings people together, inviting them to play an immersive high-speed game, using their phones as controllers, with the action happening on our big screen. Piing is super simple, uniquely challenging and seriously fun. Presented by Comic Relief - donations are encouraged as part of gameplay. Comic Relief intends to split all proceeds equally between Comic Relief and registered charities United by Birmingham 2022 Legacy Charity and Commonwealth Sport Foundation.

The Festival Food and Drink Eatery, a pop up catering unit, will offer a range of tasty breakfast, lunch and dinner treats daily from 8am to 10pm. From lunchtime, the square will also be licensed for people to enjoy drinks from the bar, including a choice of social enterprise prosecco and cocktails for those looking to support a worthy cause as they enjoy the Games atmosphere.

The menus will change across the two weeks, giving return visitors something different to look forward to and showcasing some of the finest Colmore eateries and bars in the city. For early risers, who want a healthy treat on the way into the city, perhaps after enjoying the Sunrise Stretch sessions, there will be granola yoghurt pots, overnight oats, kombucha and coffee. From lunchtime you can pick up salads, deli bakes, vegan cakes, muffins and pastries plus appetising ciabatta and focaccia sandwiches. There will also be biriyani, vegetarian papdi chaat, spicy chicken noodles and veggie stir fry to enjoy whilst listening to the Fountain Stage Music programme plus kebab wraps, shawarmas with selections of salads, pickles, and sauces and vegan options including crispy tofu. Games and Festival site visitors will be spoiled for choice!

Throughout the day visitors and passers by are also invited to watch sporting highlights from the Games on our big screen, enjoy food and drinks from Colmore BID cafes, bars and restaurants, and take a look at digital commissions and projects from the Birmingham 2022 Festival at our Screen Spotlights.
