An immersive experience at the Friends of the Earth Centre, Birmingham.
With the redevelopment of the Digbeth area for the HS2 rail link, a team of top archaeologists have been making some extraordinary discoveries, changing the understanding of the city’s past - its origins in Anglo-Saxon times, and its growth as a medieval market town.
Can you solve the mystery of the skeletons in the unmarked graves?
Perhaps there are clues in the fragments of an ancient fresco, that have been found on the same site…
Examine the evidence – and draw your own conclusions!
Step into a real “archaeological dig site” in the centre of Birmingham. Moving through the building, and into the garden, encounter actors in-role as archaeologists, and even as “ghosts” from the past…
This project is based on historical research, but there are also a lot of inventions and speculation.
The project has been devised by groups of some 80 young people (aged 13-15) from Birmingham schools (Eden Girls Leadership Academy, George Dixon Academy, Calthorpe Academy, and Archbishop Ilsley Catholic School). It is led by a team from Midland Actors Theatre, including David Allen (director), John Bell (designer), and Alicia Gardener-Trejo (musician). Over the 3 days of the exhibition, there will be special drama performances, and a talk by Professor Carl Chinn (project consultant).
