Safeguarding children and adults at risk is at the heart of what is important to the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.  The laws and statutory guidance which govern safeguarding are adhered to as you would expect, but sometimes safeguarding is as simple as reporting to the right people when you believe you have a concern.

Safeguarding within a mega sporting event is important and we want to make sure everyone has a positive experience and this can only be achieved by creating a safe environment.

It is important to know:

  • Who may be vulnerable or at risk
  • How to recognise the signs and indicators of any abuse
  • What to do if a young person or adult confides abuse to you
  • How to effectively record and how to report concerns to the right place
  • Good practice guidelines

The OC has developed policies and processes that ensure that those working or volunteering for B2022 are informed of how to spot the signs of abuse and then more importantly what to do with that information to ensure children and adults at risk are safeguarded.

We aim to minimise the chances of safeguarding incidents happening, however, they do occur and we need to equip all to recognise incidents or concerns and respond appropriately to ensure children and adults are safe and to create a culture to prevent similar incidents from happening again.

The CGF would like feedback on our safeguarding mechanisms during Birmingham 2022, if you can follow the QR code and complete a short questionnaire we can review our systems for future games.
