The Queen’s Baton Relay started its Botswanan journey on 30 November, with a visit to Toteng. The first stop was Tshwaragano Junior Secondary School, where children were bursting with enthusiasm to learn more about the Queen’s Baton Relay. To mark the visit from the Baton, 72 students drew the 72 flags of the Commonwealth nations and territories.

The Baton was taken to the Toteng Kgotla, a public meeting in the village of Toteng, to witness the telling of traditional folklore by the village chief and discussing important issues facing the community.

The final stop of the day was at the Sehithwa village, where the Baton was towed in a cart by two donkeys. People from the local community came together to sing, dance, and welcome the Baton’s arrival.

The second day started in Maun, the fifth largest town in Botswana. The Baton visited the Maun Kgotla, where the Maun Chief explained the history of the village. It was also taken on a tour of the Kgotla area, the granaries and a historic grave site and ruins.
