Teenager Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix was crowned Commonwealth champion as Team England recorded a one-two finish in the women's 10m platform at Sandwell Aquatics Centre.

The 17-year-old finished with a winning score of 357.50 to pip team-mate Lois Toulson to the title after the Gold Coast 2018 bronze medallist went one better this time around to clinch silver.

Canada's Caeli McKay sealed the last spot on the podium with 317.50 points, with Eden Cheng, 19, making sure three English divers finished in the top four.

Spendolini-Sirieix admitted a "peaceful" mindset put her at ease as she clinched her first international senior title and she was delighted to perform in front of the Birmingham crowds.

She said: "I'm very, very happy.

"It's amazing, especially for it to be in a home Games – and the first time I've actually had a crowd, because I didn't have one at Tokyo 2020 and the other internationals I've done.

"It's incredible. I've had so much fun and I wasn't really scared. I was peaceful.

"I was peaceful throughout but on the last dive I had quite shaky calves, so I think that helped with the push that I needed.

"Overall, I've never had that much fun in a competition."

Spendolini-Sirieix said she had given the Perry mascot she won on the podium to her brother to say thank you for his support and was in a joking mood when asked about her father - TV personality Fred Sirieix - being the only famous person in the family.

She added: "Whoa. Well, maybe. We'll see, we'll see.

"I've spoken to my mum, my dad and my brother. I gave Perry to my brother just because it's the most I can do to say 'thank you'.

"They said 'well done'. I could see tears in their eyes. I didn't really want to look them in the eye in case I cried.

"[My dad gave me a] thumbs up. I think he didn't want to cry, so he didn't say much. He couldn't come to Tokyo, so he prioritised coming to Birmingham. And he came to worlds as well.”
