Project Details

The Sporting Development Programme aims to use football as a vehicle to overcome isolation, increase physical activity and promote community cohesion.

The programme brings three activities to encourage contact between older and younger people:

1. Weekly drop-in football sessions for young people aged 13-19, led by their youth team. These sessions take into consideration differences in size and physical ability within the group, ensuring that everyone feels included.

2. Walking football group for people 50+ and those with limited mobility currently, formed in partnership with the Aging Better team. This initiative aims to reach out to isolated, older men with limited opportunities to socialise and who would like to be more physically active.

3. Intergenerational work led by youth leader volunteers. This initiative includes activities such as fishing.
