Project Details

The School Engagement Canal Clean Up strives to engage young people in creating a greener environment and in turn improving the health of a generation, boosting people’s self-belief and growing pride in our region and country.

The project aims to:

  1. Raise awareness of the impacts of single-use plastics
  2. Educate children about the dangers of plastics and the importance of recycling
  3. Remove more litter from streets and waterways
  4. Put pressure on manufacturers to use little or no plastic in their packaging

Working with hundreds of volunteers, including children from over 30 schools, scouts, guides and a variety of faith communities, the project will help keep local areas clean of litter and educate present and future generations about the impact of plastics.

Through litter picking, the project hopes to improve community cohesion and get people out to do something active, reducing anti-social behaviour in younger people and encouraging leadership and teamwork.
