Could you be part of the Commonwealth Collective?

We’re looking for more than 13,000 spirited, dedicated and dynamic volunteers to be the heartbeat of the Commonwealth Games, a community of passionate people coming together to help deliver the biggest sporting and cultural event the West Midlands has ever seen.  

Birmingham and the West Midlands is a community of communities, home to more than 180 nationalities. The Commonwealth Collective will represent the vibrancy and diversity of our people at Birmingham 2022, a home Games for every nation.   

As part of the Commonwealth Collective, you’ll be the public face of Birmingham 2022, the heart and soul of the Games experience for athletes, officials, spectators, and a global audience of more than one billion.

Community Hub

Need help applying?

If you or someone you know doesn’t have access to a computer or the internet, you can still apply to be a volunteer. The Spring 22 Community Hub in Hamstead, Birmingham will function as a volunteering application hub, with drop-in sessions on 10th June (13:00 – 16:00) and 17th June (10:00-16:00). Additional appointments can be made on an ad-hoc basis throughout the remainder of June by calling 0121 663 1443 or 07803089842.

As well as access to technology, the hub will provide support and guidance with volunteering applications.

Our volunteers will say the first hello and final goodbye, with roles as diverse as the people we’re looking for. We need drivers, first aiders, meet & greeters, venue preppers, kit carriers, courtside assistants, and everything in between to help keep the Games running smoothly, right across the region.  

Volunteering Timeline

Dates are subject to change.

June 2021: Applications Open

Volunteers can apply online by following the links on this page.

September 2021: Interviews Start

Interviews will take place at the Volunteer Selection Centre until December 2021.

January 2022: Roles Offered

Volunteers can check the status of their application via the Volunteer Portal.

April 2022: Training Delivered

There will be multiple sessions, including an orientation event and role-specific training.

June 2022: Uniform Delivered

Uniforms will be free to keep, and designed to be wearable after the Games.

June-July 2022: Accreditation Collected

Volunteers will need to be accredited in order to work at the Games.

July 2022: Games and Shifts Start

Shift information and schedules will be found on the Volunteer Portal.
