Join the volunteer cast for our Opening and Closing Ceremonies

Taking place on 28 July 2022, and broadcast to 1.5 billion people around the Commonwealth, the Opening Ceremony will host a live audience of 30,000 at the newly redeveloped Alexander Stadium. Some of the UK’s brightest and best creative names have been assembled to deliver this once in a lifetime showcase for the region, with the team boasting a compelling blend of global prestige and homegrown talent.

Created in Birmingham, the Ceremonies will showcase voices, cultures and talent from right across the West Midlands who will be represented on an international stage through the lens of innovative broadcast, cutting-edge technology, and spectacular creative production. More details about the Ceremonies will be revealed soon but we want you to be part of it.

Ceremony volunteer applications are separate to Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Collective volunteer applications. If you have already applied to be a member of the Commonwealth Collective but would like to be considered for a Ceremony role you will have to make a new application, and declare this in your application where indicated.

Production Volunteers

We are looking for enthusiastic individuals aged over 18 who would like a backstage role assisting in our Costume, Hair and Makeup department. A great practical opportunity to learn more about costume making, hair and makeup. Some experience useful but more important is a keen interest to learn and enthusiasm for getting involved.

The volunteer programme for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the Games is being managed by Birmingham Ceremonies Limited. Birmingham Ceremonies Limited is the organisation who have been appointed by Birmingham 2022 to produce and deliver the Opening and Closing Ceremonies.
