Get Set for the Games is the overarching campaign that will ensure the city and region can continue to function and thrive in the lead up to, and during, the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. It is a way to ensure that Birmingham and the West Midlands is fully prepared to welcome the 4,500 athletes and the 1million visitors from around the world in July 2022, and our success depends on the participation of all residents and businesses who call the West Midlands home.

The Games is a once in a generation opportunity to maximise the global attention that will be on the city, as we showcase the diverse, vibrant community of communities within the West Midlands. We can spread a message of hope and opportunity to the Commonwealth and beyond. With a televised audience of 1.5 billion, it is important that we work together to profile this great region, the cities within it, and the people who call it home.

Across the Games Partnership, the operational planning and delivery teams have been assessing the impact that the Games’ events will have on the services that the Local Authorities and civic partners provide. The Games will bring with it great opportunity and benefits, from new jobs, to improved skills, increased footfall of visitors, and a renewed appreciation of what this region can deliver. We need to ensure that businesses and residents can maintain their day-to-day lives as one of the largest, most prestigious global sporting events comes to town – that’s what Get Set for the Games will do.

Under this banner, we will communicate with you about important areas including traffic and transport, waste, business continuity, licensing, trading and advertising restrictions, as well as safety and security. We are starting this now, as the Games is becoming real, and will ramp up over the next few weeks and months as we begin to truly Get Set for the Games.

This dedicated section of our website will provide a one-stop-shop where the most up-to-date information about the impact of the Games can be found. It will grow over time, and will house useful information, advice, and tips for residents and businesses. We are committed to being a good neighbour on the run up to and throughout the Games, and we will be updating this frequently, and you can contact us by the methods below.

We hope that you find the information continued within these pages useful and we want everyone to get behind the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. It will change the city and region for the better and with your help we can deliver something spectacular.
