5 Top Tips
for West Midlands Ticket Ballot Success

The West Midlands ticket ballot for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games is now open. With competition venues right across the region, this is a Games for the whole of the West Midlands.

We want to give people living in the region the best opportunity to experience the Games by offering access to an early release of tickets.

A ticket ballot is the fairest way of giving everyone a chance to be a part of the Games by applying for tickets. It isn’t first come, first served so you can apply at any time during the ballot window which closes on 30 July.

Entering a ballot is not a guarantee that you will receive tickets, but we’ve set out some helpful tips below to help guide you through the process:

1. Availability Indicators

There are useful indicators on the list of sessions when you apply for tickets. Tickets that are in high demand are indicated, so you can increase your chances in the ballot by opting for the sessions that are highlighted as having ‘availability’.

2. Earlier Sessions

Apply for sessions which include the earlier rounds and heats as they are likely to have greater availability than medal sessions and you can also apply for more tickets. For some sessions you can apply for as many as 8 or 10 tickets.

3. Try Something New

With 19 sports and 8 Para sports, why not experience a sport you’ve never seen before? Weightlifting, lawn bowls, badminton, table tennis, judo or rugby 7s will all provide world-class sporting entertainment. Find out more about all of our sports

4. The bigger the venue, the more tickets there are

A number of the sports will be held in large venues, such as athletics at the newly redeveloped Alexander Stadium, women’s cricket T20 at Edgbaston Stadium, rugby 7’s at Coventry Stadium and gymnastics at Arena Birmingham. These larger capacity venues will offer a greater chance of success in the ballot as there are more tickets available.

5. Celebrate the end of the Games in style

The Opening Ceremony is always very popular and tickets will be in high demand but the Closing Ceremony will also be a party to remember, with athletes and spectators celebrating the end of the Games in spectacular style.

While the ballot is open, you can apply for tickets to any of the 286 sessions of sport during the Games, plus the Opening and Closing ceremonies.

There are more than one million tickets available, with ticket prices starting from £8 for under 16s and from £15 for adults. There are £22 tickets available for every single session of sport, including all medal sessions and for the Opening and Closing ceremonies.

And finally, please don’t worry if you aren’t successful or eligible for the West Midlands ballot, the majority of tickets will be available to everyone in the main ballot in September.
